Just finished taking an Adaptive Yoga workshop for Multiple Sclerosis. Yoga Teachers who had allready reached the level of Registered Yoga Teacher Status from Yoga Alliance were qualified to take the training. Here is a recap…
o MS is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that causes damage to nerve axons.
o Damage can occur with and without symptoms.
o MS affects movement, cognition and energy.
o Stress makes MS worse.
* Yoga can help increase function and delay or possibly prevent disability (by maintaining function):
* Movement – gentle, repetitive, appropriate, adaptive
* Relaxation techniques
* Yogic philosophy
I look forward to implementing some of the elements from the workshop in the gentle Yoga classes that I teach, and possibly in the near future offering a MS Yoga class.
